Grounds for Success Orientation

Welcome to the University of Virginia!

University Human Resources provides you with a comprehensive orientation experience: an in-person program, eLearning modules, and a checklist to assist you in starting your successful career at the University.

Please read this welcome letter from Bryan Garey, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources.

In-Person Program

Orientation begins with a half-day in-person program that focuses on the University’s rich history and culture, our mission, and future plans.

The program includes a 45-minute walking tour of the Academical Village, so wear comfortable shoes and bring appropriate weather gear to enjoy this outing. Please tell your hiring contact if you have physical limitations that need accommodating.

You’ll attend the program on or close to your first day of employment. It’s held from 8:30am to 12:00pm in the Kaleidoscope Room in Newcomb Hall (#30 on map) unless otherwise indicated on the schedule below. Please arrive by 8:15am. Coffee, water, and breakfast breads served.

Program Schedule

Please review the schedule. Parking is free in Central Grounds parking garage, #9 on map. At the conclusion of the program you’ll receive a parking pass that covers 5 hours of parking.

Inclement Weather Policy

The program follows the UVA operating schedule with one exception: if Albemarle County schools are closed due to weather conditions, the program is cancelled.

eLearning Modules

Please complete your orientation eLearning modules during your first 2 weeks of employment. The 4 modules take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Access them by clicking the buttons below.
