Academic Employee Orientation

Welcome to the University of Virginia!

As a new academic employee, you will attend an exciting and comprehensive in-person orientation experience. The program includes information on the University’s rich history and culture, our mission, and strategic priorities.

The program also offers a high-level overview of employee Benefit options, a review of required eLearning modules, information about Parking and Transportation, and a discussion about ID badges.

Participants will take home a checklist, and other resources, which will further assist them to get started in their new position.

In-Person Orientation Program

You’ll attend the program on or close to your first day of employment. Orientation is held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please arrive by 8:15 a.m. for registration. Coffee, water, and breakfast pastries will be served.

Location and Parking

The program is held at Zehmer Hall – 104 Midmont Lane - #25 on mapParking is free in Zehmer Hall’s lot for the duration of the session.

*GFS will be held on Tuesdays on January 22, May 28, and September 3.

I-9 Forms

If you are attending GFS orientation on or before your third day of work, please bring identification documents to complete Part 2 of your I-9. Specialists will be available to process I-9 forms from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Cancellation Policy

The program follows the UVA operating scheduleIf non-designated employees are asked not to report to work, Grounds for Success is cancelled. You will be contacted for rescheduling.
